Mushroom And Swiss Sloppy Joe Recipe
Ingredients
For the Sloppy Joe Mixture
1 1/2 pounds ground beef
1 onion, chopped
1 green bell pepper, chopped
1 red bell pepper, chopped
1 (10 ounce) can tomato soup
1/2 cup ketchup
1/4 cup brown sugar
1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
1 teaspoon dried oregano
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon black pepper
1/2 cup chopped recent parsley
12 hoagie rolls, break up and toasted
1 cup shredded Swiss cheese
1/2 cup sliced fresh mushrooms
For the Mushrooms and Swiss
1 pound ground beef
1 medium onion, chopped
1 (10.75 ounce) can cream of mushroom soup
1 (10 ounce) can diced tomatoes and green chilies, undrained
1/2 cup water
1/4 cup ketchup
1/4 cup brown sugar
1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
1 teaspoon dried oregano
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon black pepper
1 (15 ounce) can kidney beans, drained and rinsed
1 (15 ounce) can corn, drained
1/2 cup sliced mushrooms
1/2 cup shredded Swiss cheese
Hamburger buns, for serving
Instructions
For the Sloppy Joe Mixture
Sauté the Mushrooms:
1. Slice 8 ounces of white or brown mushrooms thinly.
2. Heat 1 tablespoon of olive oil in a big skillet over medium heat.
3. Add the mushrooms and sauté until softened and flippantly browned, about 5-7 minutes.
Prepare the Sloppy Joe Mixture:
1. In a large bowl, combine 1 pound of ground beef, 1 chopped yellow onion, 2 cloves minced garlic, 1 (12-ounce) bottle of tomato sauce, 1 (8-ounce) can of tomato paste, half of cup of brown sugar, 2 tablespoons of Worcestershire sauce, 1 tablespoon of Dijon mustard, 1 teaspoon of smoked paprika, 1 teaspoon of dried thyme, and half of teaspoon of salt and pepper.
2. Stir to combine.
Add the Mushrooms to the Sloppy Joe Mixture:
1. Add the sautéed mushrooms to the Sloppy Joe combination and stir to include.
Heat the Sloppy Joe Mixture:
1. Heat the Sloppy Joe combination over medium heat until warmed by way of, about 10-15 minutes.
Prepare the Swiss Cheese Topping:
1. Slice 6 slices of Swiss cheese thinly.
Assemble the Sloppy Joes:
1. Toast 6 hamburger buns or slider buns.
2. Spread the sloppy joe healthy Joe combination evenly over the underside buns.
3. Top with the Swiss cheese slices.
4. Place the highest buns on top.
For the Mushrooms and Swiss
Ingredients for the Mushrooms and Swiss:
1 small onion, finely diced
¼ green bell pepper, finely diced
¼ red bell pepper, finely diced
8 ounces sliced mushrooms
2 tablespoons beef broth
½ cup shredded Swiss cheese
Salt and pepper to taste
To Assemble the Sloppy Joes
Instructions
To Assemble the Sloppy Joes
1. Spread half of cup of the sloppy joe filling evenly over the bottom half of every hamburger bun.
2. Add a slice of Swiss cheese.
3. Close with the top half of the bun.
4. Place the sloppy joes on a baking sheet and melt the butter within the microwave.
5. Brush the melted butter on the tops of the buns.
6. Broil the sloppy joes for 1-2 minutes, or until the buns are golden brown.
