Caramelized Onion Sloppy Joe Recipe With Swiss Cheese

- 2 medium yellow onions, thinly sliced
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon black pepper

- 1/4 cup water
- 1/4 cup dry pink wine (optional)
- 2 tablespoons honey or maple syrup
- 1 tablespoon apple cider vinegar
For the Sloppy Joes
1 pound ground beef
1 onion, chopped
3 tablespoons tomato sauce
1 tablespoon brown sugar
1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
1 tablespoon yellow mustard
Salt and pepper to taste
6 hamburger buns
1/2 cup Swiss cheese, shredded (optional)

Peel and slice 2 massive yellow onions.
Heat 2 tablespoons of unsalted butter in a large skillet over medium heat.
Add the onions to the skillet and prepare dinner, stirring incessantly, till they are softened and starting to brown, about 15 minutes.
Reduce the heat to low, add 1 tablespoon of brown sugar, and cook dinner for an additional 15 minutes, or till the onions are deeply caramelized and very delicate.
Scrape the bottom of the skillet to loosen any browned bits.
Remove the skillet from the warmth and set aside.

- 1 pound floor beef
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 1 large onion, thinly sliced
- 1/3 cup brown sugar
- 1/4 cup ketchup
- 1/4 cup water
- 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
- 1 teaspoon mustard powder
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
- 8 hamburger buns
- 4 slices Swiss cheese
Instructions:
- Heat the olive oil in a big skillet over medium-high heat. Add the bottom beef and cook dinner, breaking it up into small items, till browned. Drain any extra fats.
- Add the onion to the skillet and prepare dinner, stirring often, till softened and golden brown, about 10 minutes.
- Stir within the brown sugar, ketchup, water, Worcestershire sauce, mustard powder, salt, and black pepper. Bring to a simmer and cook until the sauce has thickened, about 5 minutes.
- Serve the sloppy joe healthy Joes on hamburger buns topped with Swiss cheese.

- Spoon a few of the mixture onto every bun backside.
- Top with cheese and bun tops.
